  1. Open up some space for graffiti and street art around the city

Let folks paint some of the empty (ugly) buildings with murals and art. Allow painting along the trax corridor. Build a graffiti free wall at all the skate parks. Have a contest and select artists to paint all of the utility boxes in the city. Why not encourage art and expression so when you take a walk there is something to see besides advertisements. You could have an art scavenger hunt with a map of free art spots. I would rather see tags all over than look at the ugly Neff floral building on 400 south again. Imagine that building…

    • Improve air quality

The city should partner with other municipalities and county governments along the Wasatch Front to identify causes of and solutions to the air quality problems.

      • Set a clear historic preservation policy for the city and stick with it

Historic districts have been great successes in some areas of the city, but in other areas, particularly Central City and on the 300 West corridor, they exist without political or private support. This is most evident in the wide disparity between what is allowed by the base zoning and what is allowed by the guidelines of the historic district. This has resulted in contentious and protracted battles over properties in these neighborhoods that have resulted in stagnation. The best examples of this are the Marmalade Commercial Node block on 300 West and the Emigration Court Block on 400 South. In…

          • Coordinate traffic lights and publicize how to use them

Some traffic lights are coordinated; more ought to be. Tell the public how, where, and when they are coordinated so we'll know how to plan travel. Is there one pattern for the morning and another for evening?

            • Increased affordable public parking

The city should encourage public transit but still provide parking options. Finding parking downtown for reasonable prices is hard!

              • more recreation available in the city, make adult sports leagues teams easier to join individually

It seems like we must go into the canyons for any recreation. and for kids to join sports leagues they can do so individually, but as an adult you have to have a team already put together. This really loses a lot of interest in a community that wants to recreate.

                • Infill big-box parking lots

The huge parking lots in front of big-box supermarkets and malls are never full. The City should reduce parking requirements in order to encourage infill. Better a little overflow the day before Thanksgiving than empty asphalt all year long.

                  • Family-friendly UTA bus service

UTA is priced for solo commuters. Kids over age 6 are charged full adult fare. That means it costs over $6.00 for me to ride the bus with two kids, an expense that often forces us to drive a car when the bus would be more convenient. I have used the group-rate to ride Front Runner, but it's only available at train stations, not on buses. How about offering something like a $1 fare for kids riding together with an adult? I believe Kids who learn how to navigate the bus system will be more likely to use transit as…

                    • More love for Great Salt Lake & Jordan River

The Great Salt Lake flyway hosts one of the major wildlife migrations in the world. Davis County hosts a nice bird festival, but in Salt Lake City the lake barely seems to exist. We have an astonishing natural wonder in our backyard and the City could benefit from a closer relationship with the lake. Maybe partner with Tracy Aviary, Hogle Zoo, FoGSL or UMNH to offer field-trips?

                      • Walkable connection between Gateway/City Creek

In the early 90s when I lived in Colorado downtown Denver was deserted. Now the same area is lively and full of life thanks to the efforts of Mayor Hickenlooper. SLC has the same potential. What's needed is "boutique" retail to connect the City Creek and Gateway developments

                        • Preserve the Foothills

As a result of o70s era planning, the new Museum of Natural History was plopped down in the middle of a popular hiking/biking/dog walking area, and away from transit access. As SLC gets more crowded, the Foothills become more and more valuable as open space.
