I would like to see the city establish electronics recycling locations throughout the city. Similar to what has recently been done with glass recycling. In order to ensure that only appropriate materials are deposited, these locations may need to be located in existing municipal locations. More conveniently located locations would allow those who do not have cars easier access to such facilities. Convenient locations would also make it so people do not need to travel as far in order to access electronics recycling facilities. Convenient, year round locations would also eliminate the need to wait until the summertime drop-off events. I think that this would significantly increase the amount of electronics recycling.

A city always wants to welcome people who drive in from other communities. However, a city also wants to serve the people who live in the city, itself. Just like a person living in the suburbs, a person living in the city wants to have a functional, attractive, safe, and prosperous neighborhood. An overabundance of cars and parking interrupts the functional fabric of high density communities, making them more inefficient, dangerous, unattractive, and prosperous. Research indicates that once bicycle traffic reaches the appropriate density that, on average, the average cyclist spends more per person than the average automobile user. I commend the city for trying to provide an urban environment that functions well as a high density neighborhood. I, also, commend the city for trying to reduce the impact of cars and increasing multimodal transit. Downtown Salt Lake City is Utah's only high density urban environment and I hope that we will allow it to function as such.

I suggest that the priority, for street narrowing, be the creation of cycle tracks. Cycle tracks provide the greatest amount of safety for cyclists, pedestrians, and automobile users. They also provide the greatest sense of safety, which is what we need to create if we want to encourage ridership by the average person and persons of mixed abilities. Cycle tracks should be located between sidewalks and parked cars. There should be a buffer zone between the cycle track and the parked cars. Utilizing our wide streets for this purpose would allow Salt Lake City to develop cycle tracks on all downtown streets. Creating the nation's most complete downtown bicycling infrastructure.
